Five reasons to Visit Forgotten World Adventures in 2017

By Tristan Hooker/MediaPA

Forgotten World Adventures gives you the opportunity to discover and explore a very special part of rural New Zealand, self-driving in specially designed Rail Carts or pedalling Rail Bikes along the decommissioned railway line through the Forgotten World.

Now with jet boat and helicopter options, Forgotten World Adventures is one of New Zealand’s most talked-about activity providers.

Here are five reasons to put Forgotten World Adventures on your to-do list in 2017.

1. It’s Unique
When farmer, keen outdoorsman and former Waikato Regional councillor, Ian Balme, first saw the decommissioned Forgotten World rail line, he had a burst of inspiration. Following a comprehensive process of investigation, innovation and design, along with help from expert engineers, the Forgotten World rail carts tours were created in 2011.

2. It’s educational
The Forgotten World Adventure began its life as the Stratford-Okahukura railway line. Its construction is significant in New Zealand’s history. Learn about the history, the area and the people as you are guided on your journey by knowledgeable local guides.

3. There’s an option for every fitness level
With alternatives of motorised Rail Carts or pedal powered Rail Bikes, people of all abilities, ages and fitness levels can take part. Bring your whole family (but not the dog) so everyone can enjoy the experience together.

4. There’s a Jet Boat! And a Helicopter!
New additions to the tours in 2016 were the Forgotten World Jet Boat and the heli-jetoption. Now guests can choose from a number of tour selections, including exploring part of the region by helicopter as well as the longest commercial jet boat tour in the Southern Hemisphere.

5. It’s a long summer season
There’s a nice long summer season, running from October to May. Some shorter winter tours are available by arrangement.

Forgotten World Adventures gives visitors an exciting opportunity to explore the 142 kilometres of heritage rail tracks, immersed in a remote and stunning part of the New Zealand landscape. It might be a forgotten part of the world but it’s an experience you’ll never forget.
